TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS obtains an engineering contract for the development of the largest combined fertilizer production plant in Kazakhstan

Técnicas Reunidas has been awarded a contract to carry out the engineering of an ammonia, urea, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate production complex owned by Kazazot, the leading company in the Kazakhstan fertilizer sector.

With a total investment expected of around 1,000 million dollars, the plant will be located in the town of Aktau, capital of the Mangystau province, in the southwest of the country.

Técnicas Reunidas will initially carry out the engineering of the facility in accordance with a FEED/OBE (front-end engineering design/open book estimation) contract, the execution of which will require around 200,000 hours of work. These activities will be carried out by the company at its headquarters in Madrid and are expected to be completed this year.

The Nitric Acid unit will be licensed by ESPINDESA and will be based on ESPINDESA’s double pressure process.

The Ammonium Nitrate unit will be licensed by ESPINDESA and will consist of the following main sections:

1. Smonic Nitrate Solution

2. Prilled Ammonium Nitrate.

3. Magnesium Nitrate Unit (internal additive).

4. Ammonium Nitrate Reprocessing (off-specification ammonium nitrate fertilizer).

Once these works are accomplished and the corresponding financing obtained, Técnicas Reunidas will carry out the complete execution of the project and will carry out the engineering, purchase of equipment and materials and construction of the plant through an EPC contract.

This world-scale plant will have an annual production capacity of 660,000 tons of ammonia, 577,500 tons of urea, 395,000 tons of nitric acid and 500,000 tons of ammonium nitrate. This will make it the largest combined fertilizer production facility in Kazakhstan.

Técnicas Reunidas will improve the plant’s environmental compatibility by increasing its level of integration with existing facilities, optimizing the use of natural resources and improving efficiency compared to other similar pants, thus making the new complex a reference in its sector at an international scale.
