ESPINDESA / TECNICAS REUNIDAS selected by Yara for the Nitric Acid Plant in Porsgrunn, Norway

Yara Norge AS has selected Técnicas Reunidas (TR) for the Nitric Acid Plant, as part of its expansion Project on Heroya Industrial Park, in Porsgrunn, Norway. The contract value amounts approximately 85 million euros.

The project confirms Yara’s commitment to creating value through projects to expand and decongest brownfield sites.

Based on a Front End Engineering Paackage previously developed by TR, Yara has chosen TR not only as the main contractor for the entire project, but has also selected TR’s technology and know-how in Nitric Acid (with a design capacity of 1,050 MTPD) licensed by its wholly-owned subsidiary ESPINDESA. This fact consolidates TR’s technologies as a benchmark in this sector in the global market.

Técnicas Reunidas has been developing chemical technology for 40 years. Over these years it has built more than 60 plants with entirely Spanish technology in the manufacture of fertilizers, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate explosives for civil applications, ranking among the best in the world.

TR is currently working for YARA on the execution of a complete nitric acid and ammonium nitrate base project in Australia, expected to start in the second quarter of 2015.

This new Nitric Acid plant in Norway will primarily supply feedstock for the development of YARA’s NPK fertilizer facility.

Yara Norge AS is a Norwegian-based multinational chemical company. Its largest business area is the production of nitrogen fertilizer, although it also encompasses the production of dry ice, nitrates, ammonia, urea and other nitrogen-based chemicals. Yara has its headquarters in Oslo and operates in more than 50 countries.
