TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS has been selected by ATLAS AGRO AG to develop the FEED and OBCE (front-end engineering design/open book cost estimation) of a zero carbon fertilizers plant
Atlas Agro AG has selected Técnicas Reunidas to carry out the FEED (front-end engineering design) and OBCE (open book cost estimation) of a carbon-neutral fertilizer plant.
The facility, called Pacific Green Fertilizer (PGF), will be located near Richland, a city in Benton County, Washington.
TR and AA have already worked together in the previous phase, the Feasibility Phase of the PGF Plant.
Once these works have been completed, for an amount of 9 million dollars, and the corresponding financing has been obtained from the client, Técnicas Reunidas will begin the physical execution of the plant, which will require a total investment of close to 1,000 million dollars.
The nitrogen fertilizer plant, which will use ESPINDESA technology for the main processing units, will be the first nitrogen plant on a global scale with zero carbon emissions, which will only use air, water and electricity with zero carbon emissions as raw materials.
It will have the capacity to produce 650,000 tons of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate per year and will consist of the following main units: Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate 27%, Calcium Nitrate, Electrolyzers and Air Separation.
One of the main goals of the Plant is to meet strategic national objectives to reduce CO2 emission by means of building their factories in the market, near the farmer, providing security of supply and avoiding the traditional inter-continental shipping of fertilizer with associated time, cost and carbon emissions.
Each factory will reduce global CO2 emissions with about 2 million tons per year, equal to the pollution generated by 500.000 cars.
The plant will be the first in Atlas Agro’s plan to replicate the concept in several projects in multiple regions across the world.
The plant will be the first in a series that Atlas Agro plans to build in multiple regions around the world.
This new contract consolidates on one hand Tecnicas Reunidas’ reputation in the market as experienced FEED/OBCE Contractor, and on the other hand Tecnicas Reunidas’ commitment to continue and expand its activities in an important market as North America.
